stuck in a john carpenter movie...

Strange night, strange morning. Last night I could not sleep at all...bit of movie background - my bed is right next to a floor to ceiling window in my apartment on the 22nd floor. All night I kept waking up and looking outside to find the weather doing strange things to my window, slowly my view disappeared as a creepy fog took over accompanied by the eeriest wind soundtrack...it all ended with a crazy dream where I woke up to check the front door was locked while the soundtrack to Halloween played in the background. As I went to turn in the hallway, I caught shadow in the corner of my eye skulking in the guest bathroom (Michael Myers perhaps?). Then I woke up, and of course automatically went out to check the front door, which was unlocked.
Walking in to the lounge room this morning (again most of the walls are glass) I could not see a thing as the entire view was covered in fog. And to add to the weirdness that eerie wind soundtrack made by the wind moving through the balconies was still playing. Very weird, in a 1970s horror film way. John Carpenter, you have a lot to answer for.

my amazing skills...

skill one - dunking my brand new earphones into a hot cup of coffee...I believe this is the third time I have managed this...amazing

sunday + new music = happy

my favourite time of the week is Sunday morning. There is nothing better than waking up after a little lye in, sitting in the sunshine with a cup of coffee, papers to read, and some new music to listen to. So this was last weekends treat. A little bit of Swedish pop to put a smile on your face.

Miss Li, dancing the whole way home.

water makes me happy...

yesterday was one of 'those' days. Every now and then living in Dubai can get to you. Whether it's the dangerous traffic, mannerless people, or general pressure of living in a desert that 'thinks' it's a real city. As I walked home ready to embrace my 'I hate Dubai' attitude (after been rudely told I could not take a bus that I had paid for), the lights went off, the music started, and one of the biggest water fountains in the world started to play. So I stopped, for the first time ever, walked up to the railing, and watched the show. For those that don't know, the fountain show sits in the water between Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa (the biggest mall and tower in the world). So I took a few photos, let the water cover me as the wind pushed it in my direction, and for a couple of minutes forgot about my frustrations. Okay maybe this place is not so bad after all.

a little piece of history...

a while ago, for the first time ever I spent money on some lovely 'label' sunglasses. Within days of the happy purchase I went to visit at my sister's house. While I was chatting away, her one and a half year old son Oscar decided to go searching in my bag for fun. What he found was a lovely new rayban case screaming to be opened. So he tried and tried, and managed to break the clasp with his little fingers...
Now he is almost three and living back in Australia...but everyday when I go to get my suglasses I think of him as I struggle to open the broken clasp of the case...when it does break for good it will be a sad day...I suspect I will probably by a new one and leave it with him for a couple of minutes so he can put his little stamp on it.

dance little sister, dance...

my sister always says 'I cannot dance to any music that does not have lyrics'....but when you put wham on the cd player ... crazytown comes to jadesville...

instant trouble...

This would have to be one of my favourite photos ever. Taken in the 70s, the lovely woman in the back is my mum, with her best friend (who I call Aunty Sue) at the front. This was taken at work and I think I remember mum saying that they had both just got into trouble...love their work xxx
